Its been a little while since my last blog. I had my exam for Modul 2. I passed and did pretty well. It was much more difficult than Modul 1. We had to memorize TONS of verbs and the prepositions that go with them. I had a week off and Modul 3 started last Wednesday. In Germany they have Karneval for the week leading up to Ash Wednesday. It started on Thursday the 11th. Its a big deal in North Rhine Westphalia. (That is the state we live in.) On Thursday at 11:11 everyone has to chug a beer. Its called "Altweiber." After that women go around into companies and around the city with scissors. They cut off the ties of men that are still working. Me and Enno just went for breakfast at his friends apartment and then to a party at his University. We had a really fun time. I wore my awesome pumpkin beret and he dressed up like a thug. We didn't do much for Friday through Sunday but I hear there are lots of parties in Cologne or even Aachen. There was a big tent set up in the market here. People go to the tent and party. There was a kids parade in Aachen on Sunday. I wondered if it was a parade for kids or of kids. It went down our street so I checked it out. I was afraid it would be a parade for kids and that I would look like a creeper. However, I was not the creepiest person standing there and I didn't take any candy from the kiddies. Monday is the other big day for Karneval. Its Rosenmontag. All of the big cities have huge parades that go on for 3-4 hours. We went to a smaller city called Erkelenz to visit another one of Enno's friends. We watched their parade and got some candy. Oh and I forgot to mention that EVERYONE wears ridiculous costumes. Its like Halloween but 100x more intense.
Love,
Courtney
